Changes in the curriculum of music theory at the University of Chile
Hi, I'm Javier Sandoval, a music theory student at the University of Chile. I'm also a member of the innovation committee of my career, where we are working on updating and improving the curriculum of our program. In this blog post, I want to share with you some of the changes that we are proposing and why they are important for the future of music education. One of the main changes that we are suggesting is to include popular music in the areas of study of courses such as musical language and keyboard. Currently, these courses are focused mainly on classical music, which is valuable and necessary, but not enough to reflect the diversity and richness of musical expressions in our society. We believe that by incorporating popular music genres such as rock, pop, jazz, folk, and others, we can broaden our musical horizons, develop our creativity and critical thinking, and connect better with our audiences and contexts.
